Google Pitching AI Mode Ads To Advertisers

Google is reportedly pitching advertisers to invest in ads within AI Mode. According to AdAge, which obtained slides from a Google presentation, “Google is preparing to roll out AI Mode ads on a broader scale by providing ad agencies and brands with more details on how the new channel differs from traditional search and how paid AI search will function.”
One of the slides, titled “Ads in AI Mode,” states: “Be part of our most powerful AI search experience, as customers explore their biggest questions with AI Mode.”
The presentation explains that AI Mode ads will appear in both text and shopping formats across Google Search, Google Shopping, and PMax Campaigns. Initially, the rollout will be available in the U.S., in English, on both mobile and desktop, with the status currently labeled as an “experiment.”
To run ads on AI-powered search experiences, advertisers must use AI-powered Targeting Solutions, including broad match in Search Campaigns, AI Max for Search (beta), Performance Max, and Google Shopping Ads.
Industry expert Glenn Gabe highlighted this development on X, noting: “Google is preparing to roll out AI Mode ads widely (before Q4) -> How Google is pitching new AI Mode search ads to marketers.” He added that Google confirmed the ads will be text-based (like search ads) and shopping ads with product details. Additionally, Google emphasized that “feed hygiene is critical,” urging brands to keep their digital product catalogs updated with accurate, current information.

Here is another slide from AdAge more on how AI Mode works, with some SEO advice:

The SEO advice provided is fairly straightforward and includes the following points:
(1) Focus on creating unique, valuable content for people: Adapt to today’s multimodal search environment by supporting text content with high-quality images and videos that meet user preferences.
(2) Ensure Google can access your content: Confirm that your pages comply with Google Search’s technical requirements so they can be found, crawled, indexed, and considered for ranking in search results.
(3) Understand the full value of your visits: Measure success not just by clicks, but by how effectively users can obtain information or complete tasks on your site.
AdAge further noted: “Google recently circulated a document that provides tips for AI search advertising. For instance, Google will target ads based on a consumer’s query and the content within the AI Mode responses, according to its pitch to marketers. The document, which includes a page titled ‘Ads in AI Mode,’ was shared with Ad Age on condition of anonymity.”
